ume (梅) or Japanese apricot
The history of cherry-blossm viewing,
one of the most important customs for Japanese,
dates back to the Nara Period (710~794) when nobility enjoyed
viewing Japanese apricot blossom.
During the Heian Period (794~1185) , cherry blossoms became more popular.
