ume (梅) or Japanese apricot
The history of cherry-blossm viewing,
one of the most important customs for Japanese,
dates back to the Nara Period (710~794) when nobility enjoyed
viewing Japanese apricot blossom.
During the Heian Period (794~1185) , cherry blossoms became more popular.

I visited Ueno park in Winter so I couldn't enjoy anything of what you are talking about. I only can see images on TV, showing hoe beautiful it is and how much Japanese enjoy these moments. It looks a fantastic time for all of you.
In Beijing we are living a little bit of this joy, now you can see many kinds of Cherry blossom in their pick.
Cheers.
Cool blog.
Make more posts. Japanese culture and life seems so interesting.
